Adapter to access spotify playback controls. Because of the spotify API, a premium account is necessary.

Setup / Authorization

Sign in on https://developer.spotify.com/dashboard/
Create an application, you get a Client ID and a Client Secret (see instruction). Select Web API as the API used by the app
Set the redirect URI to https://oauth2.iobroker.in/spotify in the settings of your Spotify application
Open the instance settings of the adapter in the ioBroker admin and enter the Client ID and Client Secret
Save the settings and click the button Get Spotify access
Follow the authorization in the popup window (you may need to sign in to Spotify and grant access)
The value in spotify-premium.0.authorization.authorized turns to true if everything was successful

There is no getAuthorization button in the objects anymore, the authorization is done only in the instance settings. If you open https://oauth2.iobroker.in/spotify directly in the browser, you will see Internal Server Error - this is expected, the URL works only as a redirect target of the Spotify login.

We must provide an HTTPS redirect URI as from December 2025 spotify does not allow non-secure URIs anymore.

Since July 2026 Spotify refresh tokens expire after 6 months. When this happens, the adapter logs an error, sets spotify-premium.0.authorization.authorized to false, writes the reason to spotify-premium.0.authorization.error and stops polling. Just authorize the adapter again in the instance settings.

Spotify apps in Development Mode can only read playlists owned by the authorized user. Other playlists (e.g. followed playlists of other users) answer with 403 Forbidden; the adapter logs this once on info level and skips these playlists.

VIS usage examples

The adapter provides only 5 own VIS widgets (widget set spotify-premium): Play/Pause, Previous, Next, Repeat and Shuffle. All other examples below are built with the standard widgets of the jqui and basic widget sets (e.g. tplJquiSelectList, tplJquiButtonState, tplValueStringImg) and the states of this adapter.
